Her fame grew due to her performance on "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants", but she was highly acclaimed by critics and got awards for Best Actress in the TV show 'Ugly Betty. They included her winning the Golden Globe Award (Best Actress), the Screen Actors Guild Award (Best Actress) along with the Primetime Emmy Award. Congresswoman Hilda L. Solis said she was "a role model" for Hispanics who are young in the business of entertainment for her unique performance in 'Ugly Bety'. Ferrera is a part of Time magazine's list of 100 influential individuals across the globe in 2007, was named one. Ferrera is both an advocate and a strong advocate for the Save the Children campaign. In India, as part her social service, she visited the children of sexual workers to increase awareness of the sex trade.
